Escape Room Tips and Strategy

Escape rooms are a lot of fun, but they’re also pretty tough. Therefore, I’d get at least a couple pointers before heading boldly in, especially if it’s going to be your first escape room. Here are some tips: First off, assemble the right group. Beating an escape room is all about teamwork, so you want a group that you feel comfortable with. Also, be supportive of your teammates. You never know what clue they might be working towards solving, and also realize that many solutions will require creative, out-of-the-box thinking. When it comes to solving puzzles, try not to overthink it. Most solutions are pretty simple once you’ve figured it out, but many people will spend far too long making random guesses or trying to construct some advanced math problem on the clues. If it’s taking you longer than just a couple minutes to solve something, you’re probably on the wrong path. Let someone else take a look or rethink your approach. Lastly, if your group does get stuck (which most always happens eventually), do ask for help! We provide clues to push you in the right direction, and while that may feel like cheating, realize that an hour will pass very quickly in our rooms. If you’ve been stuck for 5-10 minutes, I highly advise asking for a clue so your group can get moving again. Otherwise, you risk getting too far behind to complete the room in time...

Restaurants and Recommendations for an Escape Room Night

Playing an escape room is a great way to build up an appetite! Also, after playing you’ll probably want to hang out with your group and discuss all the things that happened in the room. We recommend taking the party out to a restaurant for a celebratory meal, or perhaps heading out to another fun activity. Fortunately, Breakout Games - Washington DC is in a great neighborhood for restaurants with plenty of options nearby. Some of our favorite places to eat on Broad St include Fatouche, Lil Italian Cafe, Haandi Indian Cuisine, Lazy Mike’s, BBQ Chicken, Sfizi Cafe, Maneki Neko Japanese, Luzmila’s Cuisine, Plaka Grill, and Moby Dick House of Kabob. If you’re looking for celebratory (or commiseratory) drinks as well as food, check out Spacebar, The Locker Room Sports Bar & Grill, or Mad Fox Brewing Company. Also, if you want another fun group activity to do after our escape room, check out Bowl America for bowling.
