What makes someone “good” at escape rooms? How does someone break out in jaw-dropping time? How does someone achieve a perfect escape room record with no losses?
Escape room success rates can depend on many factors, including group size, room difficulty, past experience, and the number of hints used. However, the best escape room players share several traits. In this blog post, we will share the common characteristics of the best escape room players so you can uplevel your escape game.

Trait #1: Observation
To beat an escape room, you have to pay close attention to what’s around you. You may need to find well-hidden clues or notice not-so-obvious patterns. The best escape room players are highly observant.

Trait #2: Collaboration
You knew this one was coming. Escape rooms are a team activity. You have to work together to win. The best escape room players collaborate well with their group. They don’t take over, withhold ideas, or talk over anyone. They listen well, encourage their teammates, and clearly communicate their solutions There’s truly no I in team… or escape rooms!

Trait #3: Patience
While escape rooms are meant to be fun, they can sometimes feel frustrating as you struggle through a long math problem or a complex logic puzzle. The best escape room players patiently work through these problems. They stay persistent without giving up.

Trait #4: Experimentation
To beat an escape room, you have to be willing to try… and fail. It’s rare that you’ll come up with the correct solution right away. You must cycle through some wrong ideas before finding the answer. The best escape room players aren’t afraid to share their thoughts, and they’re not afraid to try something new if a solution isn’t working.

Trait #5: Passion
Escape rooms allow you to immerse yourself in a suspenseful storyline. The best escape room players lean into the room's fun and story. They’re passionate about solving the room before the time runs out. They take the game seriously, but they’re not overly competitive. They focus on fun as well as breaking out.

Trait #6: Practice
It takes time and practice to become a skilled escape room player. We always say not to feel bad if you don’t escape, especially on your first or second time playing an escape room. The more escape rooms you play, the easier it will become. You’ll get used to the different types of escape room puzzles, and you’ll get better at solving them.
The good news is you don’t have to play many escape rooms to practice your skills. You can practice solving puzzles and riddles on your own. We post new puzzles every week on our Instagram, so give us a follow if you want to practice your skills regularly.

Wrapping Up
While there’s no “magic” or “secret” to becoming an excellent escape room player, anyone can practice these skills to improve. In summary, beating escape rooms takes observation, collaboration, patience, experimentation, passion, and practice. If you have these qualities, you’re a great player in our book!
