Escape Room Tips and Strategy
It’s best to enter an escape room with at least a few tips about what to expect. These rooms are actually quite tricky, and many first-timers do struggle. Here are a couple main pointers to keep in mind. First off, bring a group of people you work well with. You’re all on the same team, but you need supportive group members and people willing to help. What you don’t need is someone who will shoot down your every idea or who becomes too distracted to focus on the puzzles. Good communication and collaboration skills are crucial to beating escape rooms. When it comes to solving the puzzles, try not to get too overwhelmed by all the charming decorations/distractions in the room. There will likely be many red herrings or false clues, so stick to things that are obviously a clue. Examples are where a message is written in plain english, or where you see a number code, or perhaps there’s letter blacked out on a piece of paper. Look for things that scream out “solve me!”. Also, note that puzzles are designed to take about 3-4 minutes to solve. If you simply cannot figure it out, pass it off to a teammate or try a new approach. Avoid the tendency to overthink things! Lastly, if your whole group is stuck on something for 5-10 minutes, you should consider asking for help. The hour will pass very quickly, and your group needs to keep moving. If you spend 20 minutes on one particular step, you’ll be too far behind to catch up, so keep an eye on the clock and ask for help as needed. Also note that nearly every group will need a clue at some point, and the ones who ask promptly are generally the ones who break out.
Restaurants and Recommendations for an Escape Room Night
We find that our guests often leave excited and want to chat about what happened in the room. That’s great! Since we don’t want you spoiling the clues for the next group, I recommend heading out to eat afterwards or grabbing drinks together so that your team can discuss all the things you did right (or wrong!) in the room. Also, this allows you a place to socialize and chat, which there simply isn’t time for in the room. Here are some spots to check out following your visit to Breakout Charlotte: At the Carolina Place mall, you’ll find a wide selection of quick options at the food court, or try sit-down restaurants like Buca di Beppo and Harper’s. You can also eat at Dave & Buster’s, which is a great place to continue the fun as well with a wide variety of arcade games! Outside the mall, try El Veracruz Mexican, China Buffet, Don Pedro Mexican, IHOP, Zafran Kabab Palace, Global Restaurant, Jason’s Deli, Longhorn Steakhouse, Captain D’s, Red Lobster, Olive Garden Italian, Chaupaati, Bombay Grille, Cookout, Nakato Japanese, Outback Steakhouse, Cicis, and K & W Cafeterias. If you want a nice bar atmosphere, check out Pintville Craft Beer. And if you’re looking for more fun, head over to Laser Quest for laser tag.
