An escape room proposal is an incredibly creative and memorable way to pop the question to the love of your life! At Breakout, we are grateful to have been part of dozens of couples’ proposal stories at each of our escape room locations across the country. We were even featured in a New York Times article about unforgettable proposals.
What we love about escape room proposals is that you can make the experience really personal to you and your partner. And there is an incredible sense of surprise, fun, and adventure about it that you will never forget.
If you or someone you know would like to plan an escape room proposal, we’ve got some tips for you!

Consider Playing the Escape Room Beforehand
It might be a good idea to play whatever room you want to propose in without your partner beforehand. This way you can familiarize yourself with the room and see what elements you can add to make the experience more personal for you. You’ll just have to act surprised as you go along on the day of!
This also gives you an idea about what’s coming so you don’t have to worry about solving the puzzles the whole time. You can just focus on getting to your big moment. And if you’re falling behind on time, you can work to catch your group back up. You don’t want to NOT break out at the end and miss the big moment!

Coordinate with the Store
This may sound somewhat obvious, but it’s important to coordinate with your escape room beforehand. We want to help you make it as special as possible. Some things to ask about:
  1. Which escape room might be the best to do the proposal in?
  2. Can we add any special personal elements to the room?
  3. Do we need to change anything in the room to make sure we break out on time?
  4. What’s the best way to incorporate the ring?
Working with the escape room to form a plan will help you feel ready for your big moment.

Take some fun photos!
It’s totally okay if you want to do the escape room just as a couple, but if you’re willing, it might be a good idea to bring someone who’s in on your secret to take some photos in the room when you get down on one knee. You can also ask the game masters you’re working with to take some photos from the security cameras and send them to you! Those pictures are always really unique and fun.

Invite family and friends to join you afterward.
If you don’t want a big group of people to play the escape room with you, you can have them come towards the end and wait outside of the room for another surprise! They can take pictures and celebrate with you after you’ve broken out and they’ve said yes.

We hope these tips can help you plan a truly unforgettable proposal! If you do propose at Breakout, please tag us in your photos! We’d love to  celebrate with you. We’re @breakoutgames on Facebook and Instagram :)
