Tips for Getting Started in Escape Rooms

When the Game Master has finished their introduction, the clock is ticking, and the adrenaline is rushing, one of the hardest parts of solving an escape room is figuring out where to get started. After all, there is so much to explore! To help you get started in your next escape experience, here are a few helpful tips for when you begin your next escape room at Breakout Games.

Oftentimes, the first step in an escape room is in plain sight, but easy to overlook. With that, it can be super helpful to keep an eye out for any notes that may be placed somewhere in the open. Keep in mind, there may also be hidden messages in places other than on traditional paper. Little details such as notes and messages can often be the very thing that your group needs in order to get started!

Similar to how notes are needed to get started in some of our experiences, some of our escape rooms are more physically involved and may require objects to solve puzzles. In order to find these items, look around the room for anything that may seem out of place or for a spot that looks like it may be missing an item. While looking for these details, it’s a good idea to make sure the item you want to use is easily moveable without any resistance, so that you don't move props that aren't meant to be used!

After your group has checked all of the possibilities in our rooms, it’s great to come together and compare what you have found. Having multiple eyes looking for items means everyone will notice and find something different. When groups collaborate and share what they have, the key to solving the next puzzle gets closer and closer. Teamwork really does make the dream work!
