Can You Use Your Phone in an Escape Room?

Are you allowed to use your phone in an escape room? The quick answer is that it depends, on the escape room company’s policies and what you’re using your phone for.

Escape Room Policies
Some escape room companies will not let you use your phone during your escape room experience for any reason. Some companies may even have you turn in your phones and give them back to you when the room ends.
At Breakout Games, we allow you to keep your phones throughout your escape room. However, we do have limits as to what you can use your phone for.

What You Can Use Your Phone For
At Breakout, we allow you to use your phone for the following purposes:
  1. Flashlights: Some rooms or room areas may be dark, and if you need to see better, you can use your phone as a flashlight.
  2. Calculators: Some rooms may require math problems that you can use your phone as a calculator to help you solve.
  3. Notes: If you would like, you can make notes on your phone with your notes app. We also provide whiteboards in most of our escape rooms for the use of notes.

What You Cannot Use Your Phone For
We ask that you refrain from using your phone in our escape rooms for the following reasons:
  1. Internet research: Solving our escape room puzzles yourself is much more fun than Googling the answer. So please refrain from using the Internet during your game.
  2. Phone calls and messages: Texting and phone calls remove you from the escape room experience and can be very distracting for other players. If you do need to answer an important call, you can step out of the room during the game to take it.
  3. Photos or videos: We do not allow any photos or videos to be taken during your escape room experience. Don’t worry– we’ll take a picture of your group after you escape.
