One of our most frequently asked questions at Breakout is if young kids can take part in our escape rooms. The answer is yes!
Children of all ages can enjoy escape rooms, especially those in their late elementary school years and up. However, parents should be aware of a few details to make their child’s escape room experience unforgettable.
Age Limits
Every escape room has different rules regarding age limits. At Breakout, all participants under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian to participate.
Additionally, children ages 14 and younger must have a parent participate in the room with them. Children ages 15 and older may play the escape room without an adult present. However, a legal adult must remain on the premises through the entirety of the game.
Puzzle Difficulty
We design each of our puzzles to be challenging but solvable. Puzzle difficulty, though, is very subjective. We’ve certainly seen some young children solve puzzles that stumped their parents! However, in general, children may have more difficulty understanding and solving escape room puzzles than adults.
But just because they may not fully understand each puzzle in the room doesn’t mean they won’t have fun! Kids have big imaginations and are more likely to fully immerse themselves in the creative storyline of the room. Our tip is to focus on having fun and enjoying the unique scenario of each room, not only on breaking out.
Using Hints
At Breakout, there’s no limit to the number of hints you can use during your game. You can use more hints to make the game easier, or fewer hints to make it more challenging. When playing with kids, we recommend leaning into asking for hints. Because we won’t give you the answer, just a push in the right direction, using a hint to solve a puzzle can help your kids get to the correct answer while still feeling accomplished and proud.
Conclusion
Kids of all ages are able to enjoy escape rooms. As long as you’re aware of the age limit, puzzle difficulty, and the fact that you may need to use a few more hints, we know you’ll have a great time at Breakout.
