So you want to take your team to an escape room? We’ve got you covered. Here are our most frequently asked team building questions, answered.

What if we’ve never done an escape room before?
Don’t worry; you’ve got this! Before your game begins, your game master will explain all the rules to you and give you some tips for success. They will also monitor your progress during the game to make sure everything goes smoothly.
And at Breakout, we don’t limit the number of hints you can receive. You can ask for more or fewer hints to scale the level of difficulty yourselves.
Check out this in-depth guide to your first escape room for more.

How many players can each room accommodate?
Most of our rooms can have 7-8 players max. However, for the best team-building experience, we suggest 4-5 players per room. This way each person can take on a role. We recommend splitting your team up into smaller groups of about that size.

What are the roles in an escape room?
While most team members organically assume a role once they are in the game, some groups pre-plan and designate roles ahead of time. Going into the game with assigned roles and an organized approach can help your team be more successful. Here are the roles we suggest:
  • Problem solver - focuses on clues
  • Communicator - informs the group
  • Coordinator - strategize & organize
  • Motivator - encourage & support
  • Competitor - keeps track of time
Whether you want to assign roles beforehand or let the game happen more organically is up to you. For more on escape room roles, check out this post.

What are some team-building goals of an escape room?
We believe teamwork helps to foster the 4 C’s: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Camaraderie.

How can we measure success?
When you book at the group rate, we include a complimentary post-game Team Building Questionnaire. This offers a dozen thought-provoking questions to help you self-facilitate your own debriefing after your game and take your experience to the next level.

If we use multiple rooms, can we race to see who can break out the fastest?
Absolutely! At Breakout, friendly competition is encouraged! Our GameMasters keep track of how long it takes each team to escape for easy comparison after your game.
As an added bonus, at most Breakout locations, when you book at the group rate, we can customize your times so you can all start at exactly the same time & race to escape!
