Escape Room Tips and Strategy
While fun, escape rooms also have a knack for being pretty tough. However, with a little helpful guidance and tips, you should be well on your way to breaking out, or at least coming in prepared. First off, assemble a group of close friends or family members that you know you work well with. Escape rooms are all about camaraderie, communication, and supportive collaboration. There can be some time pressure when the game winds down, and you’ll want teammates who are all working together to win, not bickering about an ongoing sibling feud… In the room, pay close attention to everything, but don’t get fixated on false clues or “red herrings”. The advice I’ll often give to groups entering a room is that each clue is actually very simple and can be solved in just a few minutes. If anything seems like a dead end or doesn’t come quickly, leave it aside or let another group member take a stab at it. Lastly, use those clues we give you! No one wants the gamemaster to do the whole room for them, but every now and then you simply get stuck on something. If you waste 20 minutes before asking for help, you’ve just put yourself too far behind to ever catch up and break out. My rule of thumb is if you’ve been stuck for 5-10 minutes, it’s time to ask for that clue and get moving again. Remember, the goal is breaking out, not rejecting the use of clues!
Restaurants and Recommendations for an Escape Room Night
Virginia Beach is a great place for eating out, and we highly encourage you to do just that after playing one of our escape rooms. It’s perfect for bonding with your group to discuss the finer points of the room, and what went right (or wrong). In the rush of solving clues, you’ll often miss a solution someone else discovered, and reminiscing about the room over dinner is the perfect way to debrief from your experience. Near our store, check out these fine eating establishments: Azar’s (Mediterranean), Hair of the Dog Eatery, Gus and George’s Spaghetti and Steakhouse, Starz Restaurant & Lounge, The Route 58 Delicatessen, Stooges Bar & Grill, Wing King, My Vegan Sweet Tooth, or Carvel (Ice Cream). There are also several popular chains nearby including Boston Market, Applebee’s, Chili’s, McDonald’s, and more for quick bites. If you seek a bar for post-escape room drinks, check out Hookah’s Lounge & Shop, Side Door Meeting, Aqua Lounge, or Casey’s Pub.
